Community Investment in Action
Neilcott have had in place for a number of years a Corporate Social Responsibility Policy and part of this Policy includes a commitment to make a positive difference to the communities within which we work, and to improve people´s impression and perception of the Construction Industry.
Construction jobs are often thought of as low-wage, low-skilled and short-term, and we at Neilcott are therefore delighted to support the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham Insights programme.
Insight provides year 12 “A” level students and alterative to Post 16 work experience and has been developed to enable the students to develop a greater awareness of management skills and competencies with a particular focus on problem solving. Neilcott were delighted to host four students from the Robert Clack School, Dagenham from the 23rd to 29th June. Under the guidance of our Enterprise Manager, Charlotte Fowlin, who acted as a mentor, the team were asked to develop a business proposal to establish a “Learning Facility” on site at Barking Riverside where construction of our new Rivergate Centre is underway.
The Neilcott team, Mitchell Din, Evy Saunders, Charlotte O’Connor and Edward Searle went on to win Best Report at the Awards Ceremony, held at Warren School on the 2nd July, competing against 20 other teams across the Borough. Malcolm Elster, Neilcott’s Managing Director, commented “Neilcott are keen to support this excellent initiative which enables students to use and develop their problem solving skills and also provides them with an insight into the very diverse skills required for construction management I was delighted to host this event”.
